months ago. democratic senator dick durbin of illinois wanted to make clear what happens when intelligence information is still evolving. >> and i'd like to refer to five words for them to reflect on. iraqi weapons of mass destruction. we were told by every level of government here there were iraqi weapons of mass destruction that justified a war, the invasion by the united states. we are still searching for those weapons. they didn't exist. >> clearly, the strangest behavior of the day came from senator rand paul of kentucky, the tea party darling, the leader of the tea party used the hearing to grandstand and advance his political positions. >> had i been president at the time and i found that you did not read the cables from benghazi, you did not read the cables from ambassador stevens, i would have relieve you'd of your post. i think it's inexcusable. >> tough talk from president paul. his question to secretary clinton should help get to the bottom of things, don't you think? >> now, my question is the u.s. involved with any procuring of weapons, transfer of weapons, buyin

like to thank the democratic leader dick durbin. there has not been anyone in america who has fought harder for the so-called dreamers that -- than dick durbin has. and he will continue to be -- have the gratitude of many americans. my friend senator rubio who obviously is a new but incredibly important voice in this whole issue of immigration reform, senator menendez also played a key role and, of course, senator graham, who is uncharacteristically absent from this gathering. as senator schumer mentioned, it is the first step in what will continue to be difficult, but achievable. and i don't think i have to remind anyone the last major attempt was over six years ago. now we will again attempt to commit the remaining resources needed to secure the border, modernize and streamline our current immigration system, and create a tough but fair path to citizenship for those here illegally. and i would like to testify again, security situation, along the southwest border, is not perfect. there remains several areas, particularly in arizona, where people's homes are being invaded, where drug

would have removed you from your post. >> it felt senator dick durbin to remind the chamber about actual failures and coverups. >> i do want to make one point for the record here about whether the american people are told everything right away, in the right way, so that they can be fully informed, and i'd like to refer to five words for them to reflect on, "iraqi weapons of mass destruction." >> joining us now from washington to discuss benghazi and beyond, former assistant secretary of state, p.j. crowley. p.j., i will tell you, i began the day saying i was interested in the hearings, but did not know they would turn into must-see tv, which they certainly did around 10:00 this morning. i wonder what your thoughts were in particular between republicans in the senate and hillary clinton. >> well, i'm particularly struck by rand paul's, yeah, suggesting that the secretary of state, secretary of defense, president of the united states, will know every single detail of every dangerous situation that's going on within a broad and complex government. i know he's run a health clinic before, but

ryan and dick durbin and their opinions on what the president needs to do going forward. >> the green line is historic tax rates, how much we raise in taxes and the blue is how many increases president obama is calling for. the red is where spending is going. spending is the problem, revenues are not the problem. if you keep chasing them they will hurt economic growth, shut down the economy and won't get the budget balanced. >> what i heard the president say was programs like social security and medicare and med aid critically important for our future and we need to have a bipartisan commitment to make them work. bob and i have been in a lot of meetings talking about deficit reduction. we need reform in the programs that mean they will live on to serve future generations. that's the message i took from the president. >> referring to bob corker to the left of the screen. the president has a full plate. not just the budget but the issue of guns, and this week he heads to las vegas for a speech about overhauling immigration. so the second term is already kicking off with plenty on his pl
